The Atlantic Ocean is the second largest of the world’s oceanic divisions.
With a total area of about 106,400,000 square kilometres (41,100,000 sq mi).
It covers approximately 20 percent of the Earth’s surface and about 29 percent of its water surface area.
The oldest known mention of “Atlantic” is in The Histories of Herodotus around 450 BC.
There are several seas around the edges of the Atlantic, including the Baltic and the Mediterranean seas in the east, and the Caribbean Sea in the west.
The Atlantic Ocean contain some of the world’s richest fishing ground, but it also the most polluted ocean because the industry around its shores.
Physical Feature:
The water of Atlantic are never still but move in huge belts of water or current such as the Gulf Stream which affect the world’s climate.
The currents can be as warm as 30oC (86oF) or as cold -2oC (30oF).
In Atlantic Ocean the largest Island are Greenland and Iceland.
